Email Rules
Blog by Jason Tipner - Apr 29, 2009
I was recently the victim of an e-blast gone horribly wrong. The company, which I will not name, sent out a nice looking e-mail. Unfortunately they included the whole distribution list in the address line. What this did is caused any reply to the e-mail to be sent to the whole list that received the initial e-blast. I received tons of complaints from people asking what was going on and requesting to be removed from the list. Every person that responded sent out another blast to everyone on the list again. You can imagine the chaos this caused. Add this to your list for reasons to use a reliable mass e-mail system.
I was able to avoid the constant spam messages by creating a rule in my e-mail that removed all the e-mails from my inbox, and deleted new ones as they were received. Setting a rule is easy. It was obvious by the number of complaints that many people don't know how to do this. If you have never tried to set up a rule here are a few links that will walk you through it step by step.

If your e-mail provider is not listed here, I would suggest doing a search for this topic and include your provider. If you know of other sites that are helpful please post them.
