Weighing the cost of a website
Blog by Gina Young - Apr 22, 2009
Even though the cost of a phone book ad is expensive, many business have run their ad for years. Likewise, many business have printed brochures that become quickly outdated, after investing in the printing costs. Undoubtedly, the business owner must have weighed the cost and found it was worth the investment.
In today's marketplace, it is imperative to have a website. However, just putting a website out in the vast world wide web isn't enough. You need to ask yourself what you want your website to do, how much it will cost to do it and then weigh the cost. With a website you have the initial design and set-up, an annual domain fee, monthly hosting fee and the cost for changes.
(Of course you could get an expensive, database-driven content management system so you could make your own changes but if you only make a few changes a year, this investment may not be the best course.)
Though you do have to pay for changes it's more economical than other forms of advertising like a phone book ad or brochures. If you had a typo in a phone book ad, you would just have to wait for next year in order to change it. If your brochure becomes outdated and you end up throwing them away, it's like throwing your money away.
Undeniably, the cost to fix a typo or keep the information updated on your website is worth every penny.
